Support for Janson's Bone Marrow Transplant

Donation protected
In July of 2022, Janson was diagnosed with MPM, a very rare blood disorder that was caused by a gene mutation in his stem cells. His hematologist initially prescribed him some medication that managed to keep his disease under control, and that was successful for about 18 months. However, in October of 2023, Janson started to complain of severe body pain that eventually left him hospitalized at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. His hematologist found that the pain was caused by scar tissue (fibrosis) throughout his bone marrow. This fibrosis was caused by the original gene mutation that was found in 2022. He immediately recommended that Janson undergo a stem cell transplant in late January/early February of 2024. This is a major procedure, and he will need to undergo heavy chemotherapy to clear out all the fibrosis, as well as all of his current stem cells, to prepare his body for a donor's stem cells, likely from a sibling. It will make him immune compromised, he will lose all his hair, and he will likely have all of the other side effects that come with chemo. Janson and Kaitlan will also need to live locally in Baltimore for a few months while he is undergoing treatment, as he will need to go to Hopkins daily for at least two months.

His hematologist is extremely optimistic about the probability of his transplant being a cure for the fibrosis and his original gene mutation. He says he sees about a 70% success rate in patients who are 65-75 years old. Janson is only 21, so his doctor thinks his body is much stronger and will recover more quickly. Janson and Kaitlan are both believers and have full confidence that the Lord will remain close during this time. They need financial assistance to help with local housing near the hospital, money for gas as family travel to and from the hospital, and to help pay medical and other bills as Janson will be out of work for at least six months. Any and all donations and prayers are welcomed and appreciated!
