On June 24th, Papa Charlies was tragically completely destroyed by a fire. Double D’s catering has been preparing their delicious barbeque out of Papa Charlie's kitchen for years, and as a result of the fire, all of their catering equipment and thousands of dollars of food were lost as well. This loss could not have come at a more inopportune time, as James and Christy were preparing to serve the Lutsen 99er crowds and gearing up for their busiest season yet. James and Christy’s most immediate need is to restock their food supplies as quickly as possible to meet the demands of their many upcoming events. For this reason, as mentioned above, direct donations are extremely helpful.

James and Christy served their first pulled pork sandwich in 2008 at Fisherman's Picnic, the year they moved to Cook County. They have been feeding our community and its many visitors since. For many years, the Marshall Family helped operate Chez Jude. If you ever had the pleasure of eating there, chances are you were greeted warmly by Christy or Dakota at the host stand. Chefs Judi Barsness and James Marshall hustled in the kitchen to serve a phenomenal array of from-scratch dishes, and young Dylan would often be in the back washing those dishes to keep the whole place jamming!

In 2013, James and Christy set out to do what they do best- serve the best damn BBQ the North Shore has ever seen! Their cheeky namesake gives tribute to their beloved son and daughter, Dylan and Dakota. As many who read this know, the Marshall Family has persevered through tragedy before, when Dylan passed away that same year. Through these hardships, the Marshalls have always shown their many strengths. Anyone who has met them knows that they are amazing members of our community. They treat every person with respect and compassion. They work hard and they treat their hard working employees well. They give to their community- recently serving over 200 people free dinner in the Harbor Park for Cook County Pride.

Double D’s Catering is the Marshall Families dream. They are determined to continue to grow in the years to come. Our community has the opportunity now to help them keep this dream alive. Their ultimate goal is to secure a stable dedicated kitchen for all of their future events, and rise from these ashes with a revisioned Double D’s, stronger than before.
