Dear Sacred Heart Community,

One of our Sacred Heart families, the Wetzels, Kevin, Jenny, Brody (Kindergarten), Quinn (Pre-K) and Jake (Age 1) need our prayers. Approximately 8 months ago, Jake, the youngest son of Kevin and Jenny Wetzel, was hospitalized with meningitis. After 2 life saving surgeries to remove an abscess on baby Jake’s spine, he was left paralyzed from the waist down. You can learn more about the Wetzel’s ordeal by viewing here:

To the surprise of the doctors, Jake has regained some use of his legs but he has reached a critical point in his recovery. Spinal cord treatment for children is practically non-existent but the University of Louisville has a pediatric neuro-recovery unit that enrolls children as young as 1 year old. The family has decided to enroll Jake in the program and Kevin and Jake will relocate to Kentucky for a year or more. Jenny, Brody and Quinn will remain here.

As of now, insurance will only cover 3 weeks of Jake’s rehabilitation and the cost alone for the program is $45,000. This does not include the cost of travel, other medical expenses for Jake, and supporting two households. I know the Wetzels are prideful, but it be wonderful if our community at Sacred Heart could show our love and support for them.
