Kathryn's Music Therapy Trip
Hello! My name is Kathryn Gates, I am from a small town in Northwest Vermont and music and people are two of my favorite things. I am currently a Junior at Temple University in Philadelphia working towards my bachelor's degree with a major in music therapy, and this Summer will be my first time going abroad!
To make a long story short, I was granted the incredible opportunity to go on a music therapy trip to Kenya for three and a half weeks this coming July (July 2016) with an organization called Global Youth Groove (http://globalyouthgroove.org/) as well as several other music therapy majors and music therapists in the U.S. We will be bringing music and music therapy techniques to places like hospitals and orphanages in Nairobi, Uganda, and Rwanda.
The goal amount above is the cost for airfare, food, accomodations, transportation, administrative fees, visa and vaccines, and the total is due in June.
As you may have already guessed, I am incredibly excited to embark on this journey. I cannot wait to interact with people and to work towards therapeutic goals using music in another part of the world (my dream)! Right now I can only imagine this will be a transformative experience and I plan to learn and experience as much as I can while I'm there.
I am so very thankful to everyone who has supported me in my journey to become a future music therapist and I would like to give a huge thank you in advance to those who send their monetary support for this milestone in particular! If I could give real hugs over the internet, believe me, I would.
I don't know exactly what my thank you gift to my donors will be yet but I have a few ideas in the works. :)
Also, thank you for reading through this and if you feel so inclined, I would also be grateful if you shared it with others on Facebook or anywhere else you see fit. Thank you again, and I will look forward to sharing my stories with you all when I get back!!
Much love,
Kathryn
