Debbie’s Medical Expenses

Debbie Almeter is always the first to say yes and always jumps right in when any of her family or friends need help. Over the years she has provided many of us with a safe place to stay when we were homeless and has helped so many get back on their feet when their luck was down. 2020 has been a tough one for us all but it has been an especially difficult one for Debbie. She lost an older sister, a brother and in June her son Bobby. In the midst of this Debbie’s health started to decline. Painful legs followed by numbness in her feet and hands which were at first chalked up to working too much and getting older. Within three months her symptoms had progressed to being very unsteady on her feet and unable to walk without the use of a cane. She has lost sensation/feeling in her fingers and hands making it difficult to hold a pen, a fork or even a coffee cup or wine glass and we all know how much Deb loves her coffee and wine. Everyday task like dressing and doing housework are becoming increasingly difficult. If you have seen her recently you know how her mobility has declined. The once active, always on the go, for many years working 7 days a week lady just can’t do it anymore.  

Debbie is a proud woman and would never ask for help so as her “big sister” best friend I am doing it for her. She needs our help. Her job does not provide health insurance and she has been trying to hold out until October when her Medicare coverage will kick in but the rapid progression of her symptoms make seeing a doctor and getting help now a priority. We all know medical care is not cheap and as she waits she is slowly losing her independence so we, her friends and family, need to act now.
