In Loving Memory of Pilar Diaz

We are heartbroken to share that our beloved mother, Pilar Diaz, passed away on June 23, 2025, at the age of 62, after a long and courageous battle with lifelong illness.

She was born on October 11, 1962, in Mexico City. From a very young age, she faced serious health challenges. As a child, she underwent surgery to remove part of her lung — leaving her with only one full lung and half of the other. Even with limited lung capacity, she lived her life with grace, strength, and love.

Pilar lived with chronic pneumonia, COPD, and eventually heart failure. She was on strong medications for years that left her tired and anxious. She underwent ongoing treatments, including regular lung cleanings at the hospital, and had been on oxygen at home for the past three years. Over time, her condition worsened, and her hospital visits became more frequent — including twice in April, once in May, and again earlier this June.

On June 20, 2025 — Adam’s birthday — she was admitted for the final time to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, California. On the evening of June 22, around 7 p.m., Pilar made the brave and peaceful decision to begin end-of-life palliative care, fully aware that her time was coming to an end. She wanted comfort, dignity, and to be surrounded by her loved ones.

She was fully aware the entire time she was awake. Each of us had the opportunity to speak with her, hold her hand, and say our goodbyes. She passed away gently in her sleep on June 23, without pain and surrounded by love.

Pilar was a beautiful soul — strong, funny, caring, and full of light. She was a loving mother to three sons and one daughter, and a proud grandmother who adored her grandchildren. She brought joy and laughter wherever she went, even during the hardest times. Her love for her family was endless — she is survived by her two sisters, her loving mother, her late father, and her devoted husband, who stood faithfully by her side. She also held a special bond with her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and their children — always remembering and cherishing the memories they shared.

En Memoria de Pilar Díaz

Con el corazón roto, compartimos que nuestra querida madre, Pilar Díaz, falleció el 23 de junio de 2025, a los 62 años, después de una larga y valiente lucha contra enfermedades de toda la vida.

Nació el 11 de octubre de 1962 en la Ciudad de México. Desde muy pequeña enfrentó serios problemas de salud. De niña se sometió a una cirugía en la que le removieron parte del pulmón, y vivió el resto de su vida con solo un pulmón completo y la mitad del otro. A pesar de esto, vivió con fuerza, amor y una inmensa valentía.

Pilar vivió con neumonía crónica, EPOC (enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica) y, con el tiempo, insuficiencia cardíaca. Tomó medicamentos fuertes durante años que la dejaban muy cansada y con ansiedad. Recibía tratamientos constantes, como limpiezas pulmonares en el hospital, y usó oxígeno en casa durante los últimos tres años. Su condición fue empeorando poco a poco, y sus visitas al hospital se hicieron cada vez más frecuentes: fue hospitalizada dos veces en abril, una vez en mayo, y nuevamente a principios de junio.

El 20 de junio de 2025 —el mismo día del cumpleaños de Adam— fue ingresada por última vez en el Centro Médico Regional Arrowhead en Colton, California. La noche del 22 de junio, alrededor de las 7 p.m., Pilar tomó la valiente y tranquila decisión de comenzar con el cuidado paliativo de fin de vida, sabiendo con claridad que su momento se acercaba. Quiso estar en paz, rodeada de sus seres queridos y sin dolor.

Estuvo completamente consciente todo el tiempo que permaneció despierta. Cada uno de nosotros tuvo la oportunidad de hablar con ella, tomarle la mano y despedirse. Falleció en su sueño, sin dolor y en paz, el 23 de junio, rodeada de amor.

Pilar fue un alma hermosa —fuerte, divertida, cariñosa y llena de luz. Fue una madre amorosa de tres hijos varones y una hija, y una abuela orgullosa que adoraba con todo su corazón a sus nietos. Llenaba cualquier espacio con alegría y risas, incluso en los momentos más difíciles. Amó profundamente a su familia —le sobreviven dos hermanas, su madre amorosa, su padre ya fallecido y su esposo devoto, quien estuvo a su lado hasta el final. También tenía un vínculo muy especial con sus cuñadas, cuñados y todos sus sobrinos, a quienes recordaba y quería con mucho cariño.

Algunos gastos del funeral ya han sido cubiertos, así que esta colecta es solo para quienes deseen apoyar con cualquier cosa adicional. No es necesario donar —amigos y familia, sus oraciones, amor y compañía son más que suficientes.
