In Memoriam Yehonatan Berick _chamber music piece
Donación protegida
My name is Elizabeth Francoeur, and I am the mother of Yehonatan's children, Émile and Léonore Berick.
Last summer, I had this idea of having a chamber music piece written in his memory; a piece for violin, clarinet, cello and piano, given that this was the 'basic' formation when we directed the Quebec City Chamber Music Society.
After sharing my idea with a few people, Canadian composer Matthew Whittall (https://www.mwhittall.com/) accepted to write such a piece. We are aiming at 2026 for completion and performances.
What we want to accomplish with this project is multi-facted: 1) within the first year after the piece is composed, the goal is having different musicians (colleagues, friends, former students) in different locations (e.g.: Ottawa, Montreal, Tel-Aviv, New York City, Ann Arbor, Toronto, Quebec City), with whom Yehonatan has worked closely during his career, to perform the piece. Many have already accepted. 2) have the piece published and hopefully recorded 3) have Yehonatan's name and memory resonate for years to come, in an additonal and different way than his own recordings and performances.
We are asking you to please contribute to this creation project by donating an amount of your choice that will go towards composition fees and paying the musicians who will perform the piece. This way, this will be a 'community' endeavor: we will all be able to say "I made this possible and I am a part of it" and it will add to the ways you are carrying Yehonatan with you, in your own life.
Of course, I would keep you all updated with progress and projected dates for performances and locations. Thank you. Elizabeth Francoeur
