It was with great shock and sadness that we learned on Christmas Eve the passing of our beloved friend, author, historian, and anthropologist Tesfaye Gebreab. His death is a huge loss to his family, to Eritrea, the Horn of Africa, and beyond. 

Tesfaye was one of the most prolific and insightful writers who rose to prominence the last three decades with profoundly impactful books covering historical, sociopolitical as well as anthropological subjects. His legacy as a writer will likely leave a long-lasting literary footprint in Eritrea, Ethiopia and the rest of the region.

Tesfaye is survived by his wife, Haben Yonas and their three young children Nyat-12, Rai-10 and Hara-7. In appreciation for his contributions and in admiration of his lifelong dedication to his craft, as friends and followers of his literary work, the least we can do at this critical hour of need is to support his young family financially and morally.

This fund is opened to help Tesfaye’s young family, and all funds will go directly to the family. Let’s keep the family in our thoughts and prayers.
