I am posting my dgtr-in-laws explanation of Keira’s new terrifying diagnosis because I truly believe a mother’s story is the most powerful! Rich & I were blessed years ago to welcome Kate and Keira into our family and we will fight with everything we have to get Keira the cure she needs! Austin, Kate, Keira and Amelia are a complete family. We will not let cancer rob them of this. Please read Kate’s recount of their journey and pray every day for Keira’s cure. Any donation of any amount will chip away at one of the other hardest parts of fighting to save your child…how to keep bills paid and gas in tank when missing work to be at the hospital with her will be an automatic.
Keira’s journey in the words of her mother…
This is a post that no mother should ever have to make, but I wanted to update everyone with what is going on so we can get as much support as possible.
Friday morning I took Keira into clinic for an issue that has been bothering her with her leg. We got an X-ray done and it showed a tumor on her lower right fibula. We were quickly rushed to hospital to get an MRI done. MRI confirmed the tumor and I was anxiously waiting on results. The results showed a tumor consistent with a Cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma. At this point I was barraged with phone calls from doctors all over.
Monday morning we went to Childrens Mercy to get a biopsy done. Her ortho Surgeon is pretty certain Ewings is what we are dealing with, and even more certain after physically seeing the tissue. We get confirmed results likely tomorrow, we are still hoping for the best but preparing for the worst with the high likelihood of the latter. We have mentally prepared ourselves for a battle.
What I need from anyone and everyone is to just surround Keira with love and support. We broke the news to her this evening so that she can be included in conversations with oncology. We want to be as transparent with her as we can. She is handling the news very well (while it has been heartbreaking news filled with tears we even got some giggles out, so that is a win in my book).
This has all happened so fast and likely her treatment will begin very quickly too. Since Ewings sarcoma is considered a very aggressive cancer we want to get the ball rolling and kick this things ass.
⚔️ out for Keira.
