Uprooted and Displaced, Lost Everything
Spende geschützt
My name is April and my family and I were recently displaced due to condemnation of our building.
You may have seen on some Pittsburgh news stations recently that a building was condemned and at risk of collapsing at any moment. That’s where We lived yesterday, today We (my family and I) have no home.
I wanted to provide anyone who is inquiring, with a backstory on how this building was neglected for years. I have been telling the property owners for at least 3 years that the building looked unstable. The previous owners were aware, and the current owners and property managers were aware of the long history of water damage to this property. Despite this fact, they never thoroughly looked into the matter, even though I sent pictures, emails and work orders about a sink hole that appeared after a long week of rain. This was back in May. The hole is a lot bigger now.
The property manger then told me the sinkhole was not on her property line.
She also threatened to have me kicked out. And would not renew my lease because I called the owner of the property and not the property management company. I had to deal with all of this in the midst of a miscarriage and a mental health break for which I am still seeking treatment.
If you haven’t seen the news article here is the link to a video and a report https://www.facebook.com/100027869186537/posts/686335142305452/?d=n
I was actually unaware that the other tenants in the other units were experiencing problems of their own, such as holes in the floors and walls and more water damage to their units as well. So the management company had to know of the issues, and knowingly allowed us to remain in unsafe conditions. And coincidentally my car decided to breakdown that day too. This is an extremely tough time for my family
So please if you can send anything that will assist my family with moving costs in the form of a donation, or resources, thoughts and prayers we would greatly appreciate it.
Update: they were ordered to demolish the building so we’ve lost everything at this point. New property owners were going to rent to us but the previous landlord gave a bad reference , lied to them saying I was behind on two months of rent for May and June. Then turned around and said to me, don’t worry about rent.![]()
She also mistakenly sent me a screenshot of she and someone else laughing and calling us idiots for having to create a GoFundMe.
It’s crazy how life twists and turns but we will make it out of this.
