Rudy the Maine Coon

Rudy is an 12-year-old male Maine Coon who was surrendered to our clinic when the owners couldn't afford to pay for his extensive medical care which included the removal of bone fragments from a declaw 10 years earlier. Scheduled to be euthanized, a few clinic employees were won over by this gentle giant's sweet disposition. They stepped in and agreed to raise the necessary funds to get Rudy the medical care he desperately needs and to rehome him once that was achieved. To date, we've raised enough to provide him with a dental, groom, and corrective paw surgery. 

Since Rudy has been at the clinic, we have been struggling to get him to eat. In an effort to rule out all possibilities for Rudy's poor appetite and bout with diarrhea we scheduled an ultrasound on his abdomen yesterday (12/1/14). We have received his results, and sadly, he has gallstones and kidney stones. If we elect to do surgery to remove them, he will have to have a specialist at another clinic perform the surgery, which could allow him to live a long, normal life. However, we are looking at $3,000 for this procedure. If we do not do the surgery, Rudy will continue to not eat well and lose weight, as he has been--he has already lost 5 pounds in 2 months.
