Harrisonville After-Prom

Donation protected
We have some great kids at Harrisonville High School. The kids are not only smart, respectful (ex. multiple accolades about the "Mercernaries" student cheering section,) and hard-working, they are a great group of young adults that continue to inspire others, both young and old. From their support of Harrisonville's Bright Futures program, helping with the local food pantry, interacting with Senior Citizens, and even dedicating their own homecoming to a little girl with cancer, these students know how to make dreams come true. They are truly inspirational. If you don't know these kids, just look up the following hash-tag on Twitter or search one of the Kansas City, MO news stations for #TaylormeetJordan.
It has been a whirlwind of a year for these students, and it seems only fitting that they begin to close out their 2015-16 year with a successful prom and after-prom event. Prom itself has always been sponsored by the Junior class, and the last few years, a local community organization has sponsored the after-prom event. This past Summer, that organization disbanded. So, there was not a event being scheduled for this year.

I personally can not imagine the thought of a one of these kids not returning to school on the Monday after prom. And I know that not everyone will attend, but this is a SAFE event for the kids to attend that will be filled with activities, food, and fun, instead of by alcohol, drugs, or poor choices. By sponsoring this event, it is a way to show them how proud we are of their contributions to our community, and that we believe that they should have a safe place for the night. From my conversations with the students, many of them enjoy the "after-prom" event more than the actual dinner/dance of prom.
I decided that this event is important for the kids, so I am heading up the 2016 event. I do, however, need a lot of help. I orginally had planned and was attempting to fund the entire event with grants. However, after starting the process, I learned that I do not have all the tax-exempt information or numbers to apply for the grants. After speaking with an I.R.S. agent for over an hour, I learned that I could apply for this exemption with $400-$800 and 6 months of approval time. I did not have the money or time for this, so this page is my last attempt to be able to raise the money for the event.

All the monies collected will be used for rental of the facilities, food, prizes, and other needs, such as supervision. Please invite anyone that you believe would be willing to make a donation or interested in helping with the event.
