Dear Friends and Family,
I'm writing you to humbly ask for your help and financial support for my dear friend, Chrystall Kanyuck, and her husband Abel who live in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. As you know, the island took a direct hit this week from Hurricane Irma and was absolutely devastated.
As you've probably seen on the news, they will both need as much help as they can in the recovery process. They are a young couple expecting their first child this month, so the timing for this natural disaster could not have been worse. Her family, friends and I have set the initial fundraising goal to $5,000 dollars to help them repair or find new housing, possibly travel back to the US temporarily, replace anything they may have lost in the storm and prepare for the birth of their first child in the next couple of weeks.
Communication with them is limited until electricity and internet is restored on the island, which may be a while. However, we'd like to get the funds to them as fast as possible. Chrystall's sister Leilla and I are in contact with her via text. She does not know about the fundraiser yet, but we plan to suprise her this week with the funds once we reach our goal. We plan to either make her a beneficiary of this or withdrawl the funds and deposit in her bank account.
