Hurricane Maria Devastation in PR
Donation protected
Our hometown of Puerto Rico has been completely devastated by Hurricane Maria. There is no power or water . We still don’t know if all of our friends and families are ok... cell towers are down and communication on the island is practically nonexistent. Entire communities are under water. The picture on this page is the street where we lived.
Many of us who are stateside feel completely helpless as we look at image after unrecognizable image of our childhood home, thinking of the people that still live there and face a harrowing situation on the road to recovery. It is beyond heartbreaking, we feel empty inside, we cannot contain our sadness... but we are coming together as a community as everyone knew we would. Puerto Rican’s are strong and resilient and we will rebuild. Across the country we are all coming together to help our loved ones.
There are tons of organizations asking for donations, and we’re currently assessing which ones we think will make the greatest impact. Anticipating the hit to the local economy, we are also thinking about raising funds to then purchase construction materials and other supplies from island-based businesses and then donating the materials to the organizations leading rebuilding efforts.
Whichever way we decide, I promise that 100% of the funds will be used to help the Puerto Rican community. This is very near and dear to my heart and I will personally match all donations up to $1,500.
I am so proud of my little brother that has so graciously decided to donate his time and will be headed to PR this Sunday to help in any way he can. Once he's there he will update us on the situation and more ways for us to help from the US. I will continue to share information through this post... Including pictures and details of my brother’s work next week.
Thank you all for your love and support of our beautiful island and its people!
Finally, once we rebuild it please find the time to visit. I promise it will be a vacation you will never forget and is one of the best ways we can support the long-term recovery.
Love,
Marissa
