Late Wednesday night as hurricane Ida was sweeping through Clifton New Jersey, Toya Adams-Quinones, my step-daughter and mother of 4 children Ages 17 (son) , 2 daughters 10, 9 and 6 yr old son, awakened from the noise of dripping water in her bathroom. She went to assess the noise, saw the water leaking through the walls in the bathroom so she went to call maintenance and noticed water rising up above her window sill as it was leaking through the sill. She then ran to wake her children and grab her dog as water was coming through the walls, windows and door of her apartment . Within seconds the water was up to her waist as she was holding her 6 yr old son while her 17 year old was holding the dog and his younger sisters.. Imagine the water steadily rising, furniture spinning around in a vortex of water , your children screaming "MOMMY I DON'T WANT TO DIE". As you make it to the door with your family you're unable to open it because the water is just too high. Thank God for a neighbor who was going door-to-door helping whomever he could escape to the 2nd level steps. He was able to get the door open. At this point the water was chest high so the neighbor grabbed the girls and carried them upstairs . Her 17 year old son then tried to aide with the neighbor to help anyone still on the 1st level.. Families had to hunker down in each other's apartments on higher levels until the water receded the next day.
Within minutes, just days before the start of school over 7' of water destroyed EVERYTHING. Toya and her children lost everything except the pajamas they had on. Although Toya had renters insurance, because she lives in a NO FLOOD ZONE it DOES NOT cover flooding from natural disasters. They are now in need of monetary help and resources for shelter, clothing, scrubs for work , personal and household supplies, food, furniture and new supplies for her at home baking business.
In closing, I KATINA SCOTT and THE FAMILY are asking for your help on behalf of TOYA ADAMS-QUINONES, A DEDICATED, HARD WORKING WOMAN in the MEDICAL FIELD, who's a CARING and LOVING MOTHER, CAKE MAKER/DECORATOR of SWEET TREATS by TOYA and her 4 BEAUTIFUL and EMPATHETIC CHILDREN with whom the oldest was WILLING to RISK HIS LIFE to ASSIST the MAN that HELPED them.
