Houston and Cypress Community for Afghan Refugees

Background Information about Fundraiser:

 

An estimated 10,000 Afghan refugees are expected to be relocated to Greater Houston. They have left their homes, property, and family members behind, bringing only a bag of clothes with them to a foreign land. Although uprooted from their land, they are grateful to be in America. We believe our faith and humanity guides us to extend a supporting hand to these families, including women and children.

 

Additionally, we are part of the interfaith communities in Cypress and Houston, including youth and students, who are reaching to join us in raising funds to provide food, clothing, and other basic necessities to help the Afghan refugee families resettle in their new home in Cypress and Houston. These families have immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothes, cooking utensils, medical needs, transportation, and much more. They also have long-term needs such employment, rental apartments, legal support, learning to speak English, and schooling for the children.

 

Your gift, whether it is $5 or $500, will go a long way in providing necessary support for these families in distress who would be our neighbors in Houston. Our faith teaches us to be kind to strangers, and to help those in need. The Quran and the hadith of the Prophet (SAW) strongly guides us to give generously from what we have to those in need and suffering. Other faith traditions share this message of love and charity for the strangers. If you cannot donate money, perhaps you can give time and effort. If not, please keep them in your prayers.

 

Our initial goal is to raise $10,000. These funds will go directly to Houston-based organizations - An-Nisa and Ammanah – both are respectable and well-known for their work. Their mission is to help refugees, especially women and children in distress. We have reached out to them and will be coordinating our efforts closely with them.
