House fire recovery for the Dossett-Martin Family

Donation protected
At 3:30 a.m. on October 4, the house next to Lara, Noah, Asher, and Tate caught fire. The person squatting in that house (which had received multiple code citations and was technically condemned) lit a candle that was placed on a paper plate. The candle lit nearby drapes on fire.

Stella, the MVP of doggies, was alarmed by the flames and busted into Lara and Noah's bedroom. They got all five of them out of their house before the smoke alarms even had time to go off, but watched from the curb helplessly as the fire jumped from the house next door to theirs.

  • What is true: all the Dossett-Martins are healthy and safe. Praise!
  • What is also true: they will not be able to live in their house again for many, many months. It might be unrepairable. Time will tell.

So many folks, from Austin to Seattle to Chicago to Champaign-Urbana, want a way to help this sweet family. They are staying with a generous friend while trying to secure a temporary rental and working with insurance, the city, etc. to figure out how to move forward. They aren’t in the position to accept much tangible help like food, clothes, or furniture right now, but they will need help in the future. Thank you for your support.
