In May of 2022, a trip to the ER for trouble breathing, turned into a diagnosis for lung cancer. I’ve exhausted all of my sick and vacation time, from hospital stays and chemotherapy and am not sure how I’ll cover everything for the time I’ll be out of work.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around all that has happened to me so far. I would have never thought I’d hear the words, “you have cancer.” I’ve spent some time in and out of the hospital since then, between fluid building on my lungs, a collapsed lung, chemotherapy, multiple tests and now, surgery.

I had surgery on November 22nd to remove the tumor on my lungs. I’ve had to do chemotherapy to shrink the tumor so it could be surgically removed. In order to remove the tumor on my lungs, it required them to open up my chest. It will take about six weeks to heal. I’ll be out of work for a while after this surgery.

Despite all that is happening, I’m in high spirits. Being positive is the only way I know how to be. I have always enjoyed making people happy and making them laugh. Laughter is what’s keeping me going. My three children, family and friends are what make up my corner of the world and it is that joy and support that has helped me get through this so far. It’s because of them that I continue to fight.

However, this situation has taken its toll on me. I’ve always been a hard worker. Always earned my keep. I believe in being there for others and supporting those I love. This is how I was built and I wouldn’t want it any other way. But right now, I’m unsure of how to ask for help. So… here goes. I’d appreciate anything you can donate.

I’m still researching support but I am simply overwhelmed with everything that’s happened thus far. I am also still attempting to get my benefits from my employer but this is taking time I don’t currently have.
