Hope and Help for Shana’s Kidney Transplant Journey

My name is Shana Oliver. I am 34 years old, a mommy to two beautiful girls, and a wife to my best friend, Tj.
It is taking everything in me to write this, and I am struggling with it.

In short, what started off as feeling tired and lousy turned into dizziness and heart palpitations.
I checked into the ER and was told I was in a state of renal failure, Stage 4.

In recent weeks, my health has been in a rapid decline, and I am now in the terminal stages of renal failure, End Stage Renal Failure - Stage 5. My kidney function (GFR) is at 12 and is still in decline. I will be having surgery next week to start dialysis treatments. I will also be going to the hospital weekly to start some EPO and iron infusions because my kidneys can no longer produce those hormones.

In the meantime, my blood type is A+, and I have been accepted on the kidney transplant list, which could take 7-10 years. I am more than grateful that I even made it on that list, and we as a family are crossing our fingers for that phone call that could be life-changing for me. For us. Until then, I will be doing dialysis at home.

The added medical expenses for the daily dialysis solutions, emptying bags, tubes, swabs, wipes, bandages for the exchanges, the weekly infusions, the bi-weekly blood tests, and the bi-weekly doctor appointments with co-pay are beginning to add up, on top of the medication that I take orally/daily. Its getting harder to for me to walk some days due to fluid build up in my lungs. I am at the point in my life where work is starting to become a challenge for me because i am so tired throughout the day.

My out-of-pocket pay for the kidney transplant is roughly $10,000. As my health declines, any help would be greatly appreciated from my little family and me. That includes donating blood to the Blood Bank of Hawaii. Even your prayers, especially for my husband and children. They are my biggest supporters through my journey through kidney failure.

Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts
