Hello Friends and Family, in that order of course – just as Chase would have it. Another year passes without our friend, cousin, nephew, grandson, brother, and son. And so, the Hoops for Hyde (H4H) Memorial tournament and fundraiser is just around the corner.

In spirit, our boy Chase serves to remind us all again to get together to enjoy one another’s company, to compete a little bit, and to raise funds to continue improving and to build anew - spaces where gathering together in friendship is inspired.

Most likely, Chase would be unaware of this, his legacy - that he lived to include everyone, that he treated people with kindness, and that he loved gathering us all together for any reason and for no reason at all. A legacy that speaks to his great humility. No doubt he would be surprised, and a little bit embarrassed, to think he inspires us so.

Why do we hold this annual memorial celebratory event?
We remember Chase at a very young age kindly offering unsolicited assistance or help to classmates, intuitively wanting those around him to feel his friendship, as only he could. He was an outstretched hand. He was a figurative hug at the right moment. He coiled at the thought of someone being left out, or passed over, or maybe just too timid to come forward on their own. It is this spirit that the Hyde family witnesses each year at this event - the love and kindness you all have and share with one another. It is that same spirit you bring to those joining for the first time.

Hoops for Hyde seeks to forward that spirit to surrounding communities, to create Courts of Kindness, where friendship and inclusion permeate play spaces. H4H seeks to instill and inspire these very human traits at a young age to as many as we can, and your participation and contribution is paramount to this shared vision.

With that, you are cordially invited to participate on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Chickering Elementary School beginning at 10:30am. You are welcome to wrest the highly coveted H4H 2023 Champions Trophy from the grips of Mark Czeisler, Josh Seidman, and Nevin Weinberg, with a little 3 on 3 basketball tournament play. You are also welcome to attend and cheer from the sidelines if you are not so inclined to step on the court.

Chase was happiest on the basketball court surrounded by friends, competing, laughing, smack-talking, and beating his father mercilessly one-on-one. “Bring a friend, Dad” he’d say, (usually Scott Seidman), and still he won. Warren will once again enthusiastically join Kip cheering from the bleachers and being with other supporters.

We hear each year how this event serves to bring us together again in friendship and how perhaps we might not see or connect with one another as frequently as we would like. Chase’s spirit again moves each of us to do so here. So come and hang with your friends please.

After the crowning of tournament champions, you are invited to then join the Hyde family back at Chase’s childhood home and enjoy not only great food and drink, but more importantly, each other, where we remember and celebrate Chase Rideout Hyde and keep him in our collective present.

See you soon, friends & family.
