Our family is grieving the sudden and tragic death of our beloved Kenli Black. On July 12, 2026, Kenli was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run. Surrounded by loved ones, he died on July 18, 2026. As we navigate this unimaginable loss and an ongoing investigation, we are asking for your support during one of the most difficult seasons our family has ever faced.
At the time of the accident, Kenli was working as a Mental Health Worker and was on his way to support a person experiencing a mental health crisis. Even in his final days, he was helping others. We have heard countless stories about the lives Kenli touched throughout the downtown Los Angeles community.
Kenli lived with an open heart and a generous spirit, freely giving his time, love, and kindness to others. He was a creative in every sense of the word—artistically, visually, and musically. He loved people, animals, and nature, embraced every adventure, and had a smile that illuminated every room. He also had a great sense of humor. One of his newfound passions was riding his Harley-Davidson. Any chance he had, he was out on the open road, and the smile on his face reflected the freedom and joy it brought him. Those who knew him best remember him as fearless, compassionate, loyal, and protective—a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend whose love will forever leave an imprint on the hearts of so many.
His mother, Lisa, shared these words about her son:
“My son, Kenli, taught me so many valuable lessons while he was on this earth. The number one lesson was to trust the process, which came by way of a longtime friend. He gave me a gift, which I had hanging on my kitchen wall for many years, that read, ‘Love More, Worry Less. ❤️’
He was a gentle and wise soul who came into our lives to teach us all how to love one another, care for one another, and not let our mistakes in life slow us down. He kept learning whatever he could to improve his life. He was fearless and a great protector.
✨ Kenli enjoyed his life every step of the way.”
When Kenli was critically injured, his family immediately traveled to Los Angeles to be by his side. His mother, a small business owner who operates a home-based farm school, was away from work for over a week and may need additional time away as our family continues to navigate the days ahead. His stepfather and sisters also traveled to Los Angeles, taking time away from work and their daily responsibilities to support Kenli and be together as a family.
In addition to funeral and memorial expenses, our family is facing the costs of travel, lodging, transportation, and the heartbreaking task of packing up Kenli’s apartment and bringing his belongings home to Sacramento. Because this remains an ongoing investigation, there may also be additional travel expenses as our family continues to seek justice for Kenli. Kenli’s beloved puppy, Storm, will now be lovingly cared for by his sister, and there will be ongoing expenses to provide her with the care and loving home Kenli would have wanted for her.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the financial burden on our family as we grieve this unimaginable loss and navigate the difficult road ahead.
Even if you are unable to donate, we kindly ask that you share this fundraiser with others who can. Your support in spreading Kenli’s story means more than words can express.
As we come together to honor Kenli, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on the impact he made in this world and the lives he touched. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, prayers, and support as we honor Kenli’s life and memory. ❤️
