Homeroom The Musical Project

Introduction

One in four teenagers experience some form of bullying. In addition, research shows that in most cases bullying stops when a peer intervenes.

Award winning playwright/composer, educator and music therapist Andrea Green along with school psychologist, playwright Selma Tolins-Kaufman created HOMEROOM the Musical to bring awareness to this issue and many other relevant teen issues. The musical serves as a springboard to help teens explore the issues of bullying, peer pressure, competition, self-esteem and stress.

Since its inception, Homeroom has been performed in many schools throughout the U.S.A. and recently the musical was produced by the Colegio Ponceño, Musical Theater teen group from Ponce, Puerto Rico. This performance was the 1st international production.

The purpose of this project:

HOMEROOM the musical has proved successful in  creating awareness of and sensitivity to the issues of bullying, discrimation and self-esteem, which challenge so many young people today.  By expanding The Homeroom  Project to other communities, we can have greater impact with these important messages. For this reason we are bringing The Colegio Ponceño Musical Theater teen group, Puerto Rico to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, June 4-9, 2016, with a show for the public on Tuesday, June 7 at 7:00pm.

Colegio Ponceño will partner with Cherry Hill West High School musical theater students, including them in the production of HOMEROOM the musical and making of the music video "Stand Up For Yourself" that will address the core issues.

The musical performances, the student partnering, the anti-bullying workshop, Q& A with student audiences, and the making of the music video  will provide a unique model for use by school groups everywhere.

This musical theater model will offer diverse groups of teens an opportunity to come together with empathy,   inclusion, acceptance and respect.

How we will do this:

To achieve this we are working with the local community, teachers and professionals from Cherry Hill West High School and the Colegio Ponceño, and Director Henry Nevison and MindTV (producers of the multi award winning documentary “On The Other Side Of The Fence”), who will provide the skills and network we need to film the process and produce the video.

To be in a position to achieve our goals, we need your help!

We need to cover the costs involved in bringing the Colegio Ponceño team to the USA and mounting the production. In addition we need to finance the costs involved in producing the music video and filming the process of Homeroom the Musical project with plans to develop a documentary in the future.

Homeroom The Musical Project can help create positive change in our youth, schools and communities—so don't miss your chance to be a part of this exciting and meaningful program – we need support to make this happen. All donations are tax deductible.

So, thank you for taking the time to view our project and I hope you will consider helping us.
