The 3rd Annual Holiday Lights for Sight will be raising funds this holiday season for Makayla, a 9yr old from Burrillville currently attending Steere Farm Elementary.
Makayla has been living with a degenerative eye condition for about the last 3-4 years where she has no night vision, little peripheral vision and is legally blind, but you would never guess when you met this young lady. She lit up our office just by walking through the door with her infectious laugh and over the top positive attitude for someone in her shoes. Genetic testing has pointed to the TUBB4B gene as the probable cause, and with little to no information out in the medical field about this correlation, Makayla and her family are using her condition to help raise awareness for others who may be just like her.
Our goal for this years' display is to raise enough funds to provide Makayla with a HumanWare BrailleNote Touch for her education. This is the same device we were able to get for Jalen during our inaugural show and we've seen the massive benefit this has been for him, so we're hoping to do it again!
