Mary's Medical Fund
Mary Walston, EHS Class of 85 Alumni, has been diagnosed with Fistula. Her short term disability ran out on the 17th. She has been denied 3 times for a continuance. She has refiled the paperwork once more and it is in review with her HR. It doesn’t look good for an approval so she will have to return to work with limitiations. She has been out since March, in July her company posted her position but fortunately if has not been filled yet. We all know how healthcare is and she says this has been a total mess.
The Family Leave Act entitles (Mary) eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave – once it runs out you are no longer protected. If Mary went to a long term disability option, they only pay once a month so she would not get a payment until November 3rd if approved. At that time she would have to pick up Cobra – God forbid how much that would cost!!!
Her daughter has been doing to some babysitting to get some extra money. Her mom who is here has been trying to help out as much as she can. Makala is a senior in high school this year. She will not be able to attend her homecoming because she didn’t have the extra cash for a dress. She is in a private school – because the high schools in Chicago suck!!! I don’t think I would want to go to a public high school there either.
PEEPS, PLEASE! PLEASE don’t feel obligated. Hey I know how tight money is and with the holidays coming around it puts even a crunch. Just a little bit will help we are not asking for much, $5.00, $10.00, $15.00... whatever your feel comfortable with!! Everyone goes through hard times, physically, emotionally and monetarily and we may be helping you out sometime too!!
