My name is Serhii Zakharchenko. I live in Ireland and study Social Care Work. I chose this course because I want to work with people who need support, children, people with disabilities, those in vulnerable situations.

There is a strange irony in all of this. I was preparing for a career of helping others, and now I find myself needing help.

On 27 March 2026 I was hit by a car while cycling from the centre of Ennis to Lidl. A normal day turned into an accident, a hospital, surgery, a cast, pain and uncertainty.

The main injury was to my right hand, my dominant hand. Both bones in my wrist were broken with fragments and crushing. I had surgery where a metal plate and screws were placed to hold everything together. I am only beginning to move my fingers, and even that is painful. Long rehabilitation is ahead.

Before the accident I was studying, doing my placement, making plans. After it, everything suddenly stopped. Simple things became hard: getting dressed, cooking, writing, taking a shower, even opening a simple package. I lost my main way of getting around and now depend on taxis to reach hospital appointments.

It is not easy for me to ask for help. I usually try to manage on my own. But this situation is bigger than I can handle alone.

I am asking for help so I can begin rehabilitation now, not wait years for it.

Where the money will go:

Rehabilitation sessions, around 70 to 80 euro per session, 10 to 20 sessions total. Transport to hospital and daily needs, 750 euro. Daily support from a health care worker for one month, 300 euro. Medical documents and costs related to the case, 350 euro.

The total for the first stage is around 2,100 to 3,000 euro.

You might wonder about insurance. Cases like this in Ireland take 2 to 5 years to resolve, and I cannot wait that long.
