A Journey of Sacrifice and Unimaginable Loss

My name is Abdel Fattah Munther Halawa, and I have dedicated my life to saving others. At just 29 years old, I am a devoted husband and father of a one-year-old daughter. I spent four years working tirelessly in the field of anesthesia at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. My hands brought relief to the sick and injured, my heart beat with compassion for my patients, and my soul was committed to the wellbeing of my community.

But on October 7th, my world was shattered. The war that erupted in Gaza turned my life into a living nightmare. From the moment the first bombs fell, I did not rest. Night and day, I stood by the bedsides of the wounded, offering solace and medical care amidst the chaos and destruction.

Then, on November 3rd, as I stood at the forefront of my duty, the unthinkable happened. Amidst the chaos of the emergency room, I saw my own mother among the injured. My heart raced with fear and desperation, but the horror did not end there. Lying lifeless beside her were my two brothers and my older uncle. The greatest shock of my life struck me like a lightning bolt, leaving me numb with grief and overwhelmed with sorrow.

"I saw my family broken and lost, my brothers gone, and my mother's life hanging by a thread. The hospital, a place where I had always been a healer, became a place of personal heartbreak."

A few days ago, I managed to reach Egypt, carrying with me the heavy burden of loss and the fragile hope of survival. My immediate goal is to help my mother receive the treatment she desperately needs, but the road ahead is fraught with challenges. The war has not only taken my beloved brothers and uncle, but it has also destroyed my family’s home and my own. We are left with nothing but memories and the will to survive.

I am now appealing to the world for help. My family is in dire need of support to rebuild our lives from the ashes. The path to healing is long, and the pain of loss is immeasurable, but with your help, there can be hope.
