Chikitin is a 17 week old Maltese puppy that was surrendered to an animal hospital because the owners were unable to afford the proper veterinary care that was needed. At first glance, you cou
ld see that something was very wrong with him. He was severely underweight with a large distended abdomen full of fluid. Further diagnostics (ultrasound and blood work) indicated that he had congenital defects that involved his liver. The doctors at the hospital did as much as they could to make him feel better but he needed a specialist. He was brought to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital for a consultation with an internal medicine specialist when our worst nightmares were confirmed. Chikitin h
as Arterial venous malformation in his liver and needs to go to AMC in Manhattan, NY to have a ct scan and hopefully a surgery to correct the malformations. Chikitin is currently on a prescription food called Hill's L/D, antibiotics, lactulose, and a diuretic to keep the fluid in his abdomen at bay. He has good days and he has bad days. The bad days consist of almost comatose like behavior where he will become almost lifeless in your arms and his good days consist of him frolicking in the backyard after leaves like he's a normal dog. I want chikitin to have a shot at being a normal dog where he can feel good every single day. When he is sick, I am sick. Help me make every day a good day for Chiki.
