Mika Wolfgramm - My Heart- Keep the beat going in his heart and music
He's only 28 years old
and has had 3 heart attacks!
The true story of how our little brother is trying to keep the beat going . . . in his heart and his music.
In 2009, at the age of 25, our little brother Mika Wolfgramm suffered a heart attack while hiking with his brothers and sisters in Salt Lake City, UT. He had no prior health issues and then all of a sudden this medical emergency became the shock of a lifetime for everyone who knows and loves him and his wife. Perhaps the biggest impact has been the tremendous financial cost.
When the doctors
first saw Mika in the hospital, they were amazed that such a healthy looking
young man had suffered a heart attack at such a young age. After many tests, they finally determined
that he had a rare pre-existing heart condition that had gone undetected from
birth.
Since then,
Mika has suffered two additional mild heart attacks. During his last medical checkup, it showed
that his heart has been badly damaged, functioning at only 24%. Recommendations from his doctors for further
surgery to install additional stents are highly likely and in the long term, a
heart transplant is not out of the question.
It was horrifying for everyone involved to find out that the reason he suffered from those additional heart attacks came as a direct result of Mika not being able to afford to pay for the prescribed heart medications that keep his heart beating from day to day. Complicating this difficult situation is that his health condition has limited his opportunities to earn a steady income and disqualifies him from any health insurance due to his pre-existing condition.
