In the last month, David has been battling pneumonia and has been in the ICU for 10 days now. They used a machine to help clear secretions and nasal and oral suction for the first few days but it wasn't enough, also his heart rate and blood pressure were very high so they ended up putting him on a ventilator. He has a nasal feeding tube and a PICC line for drawing blood and giving meds. Wednesday they ended up performing a tracheotomy. He is breathing on his own a good portion of the time and on the ventilator for rest periods as needed. They found blood clots in both legs. Yesterday they realized he was having internal bleeding and have gone in and placed metal coils in the affected arteries to stop the bleeding. They also inserted a filter in his main vein near the lungs to catch any blood clots since he can't be on anticoagulants with the bleeding issue.Poor guy! He is experiencing some confusion. They call it "ICU delirium" but is resting comfortably and has no pain.
*Meanwhile, the van they drove to the ER in died in the parking lot for the last time. They have a good lead on a used van that will cost $5,200.
