Help Winnie with her skin allergies
Don protégé
Hi, my name is Jess and four years ago I adopted a very special and beautiful Bengal who had been abandoned by previous owners. This Bengal is called Winnie. From the start I knew Winnie was different from my other cat at the time. She was a complete diva, she knew her own mind and she did come with her own set of health circumstances that were not fully known to me at the time.
I had to get Winnie a lumpectomy of a (thankfully) benign cyst weeks after I adopted her however in the last year we have been on a major journey in terms of her health.
I noticed that Winnie had very sore and weepy eyes last year in around March / April of 2022 and like any responsible cat mum took her to the vet. My angel had a large eye ulcer. She was prescribed eye drops and a cone to stop her itching or rubbing it and she was assessed over the following weeks. When the vet confirmed her eye ulcer was healed I was excited for her to be cone free however immediately she started to obsessively itch her eyes.
When i returned with with Winnie to the vet I was told it was likely a skin allergy. For weeks we tried steroids to manage the obsessive itching to no avail. We went through allergy testing that seemed to suggest a food allergy and I quickly transitioned her to a new diet. Still the allergies persisted. Immunotherapy, steroids, antihistamines and varying medications have not resolved poor Winnie’s obsessive itching. She has been in the cone for a long time to preserve her eye health.
She is now 11 and her insurance no longer covers all of her expenses as a senior cat (though skin allergies aside Winnie is fighting fit). I am doing everything I can to get her seen by specialists including a dermatologist and an ophthalmologist but I am experiencing financial difficulty from the strain of these expensive specialist routes.
I’m incredibly grateful to my friends and family for the support provided to me in Winnie’s previous time of need and feel terribly guilty to come back to you with another plea for help.
If you have just £1 to spare at this time, or could even share Winnie’s story and this gofundme I would be incredibly appreciative of this generous help. I completely understand that this is a difficult time for many people and stress for people to give only if they are in a position to do so.
From the bottom of my heart thank you to those of you who have listened to me woes over Winnie’s health journey.
Best wishes,
Jess and Winnie
