Help us save Recreation Road (Olympia) Allotments

Hi there, my name is Jaye, and I am fundraising on behalf of the Recreation Road (Olympia) Allotments.

We are a historic allotment site located in Selby, North Yorkshire. In recent years our allotments have been at risk of development. With plans approved by the local council, we have spent many years worrying if this was the year we would be removed from our land.

However, thanks to the generous offer of the current landowners, we have been given an opportunity to purchase our land at a very favourable price. Even still, as a small, independent allotment that has remained fiscally conservative for many years, we need to seek the community's help to make this dream come true.

We must act now to secure this precious piece of land for generations to come.

What happens with your donation?

Outlined below are our costs to purchase the property:

£500.00 land purchase

£3,500.00 conveyancing (buyer & seller fees)

£800.00 VAT

£1000.00 Legal & administrative fees to set up as a CIO or CIC

Total: £5,800

Our plans for the future:

As part of the process to purchase the plots, we will need to set up as a legal entity with the ability to purchase land and maintain it as an asset. As per our agreement with the current owners, this land will be permanently designated for agricultural use from the time we take possession of it. We will not seek to sell it and it is our intention to set up our organiation in such a way that the land is protected as allotment gardens and free from the threat of future development.

This is a massive undertaking but we are ready to take up the challenge. We just need your help to bring our allotments into a new life!

If we exceed our goal, any funds in excess of what is needed to purchase the property and set up our organisation will be used to create an emergency fund and/or help fund repairs/maintenance of the site.
