Help us save 97 year old Myrtle from destitution

Donation protected

VERY URGENT - Please help Mary & Myrtle raise £7,500 to fight case against destitution

Thanks to YOUR help we’ve been able to prevent 97-year-old Myrtle being sent back to South Africa in the past. But her situation remains heartbreaking:

Myrtle has just been diagnosed with end stage heart failure and she and her 72 year old daughter Mary are facing destitution as a result of tragically losing Mary's husband Dave during the pandemic last year (see also below).

Even though Mary is a British citizen and Myrtle is in need of her care, due to Myrtle's precarious immigration situation, Myrtle and Mary cannot currently access much needed help and support (such as carer's allowance) which they would otherwise have a right to.

With YOUR help, we can enable Myrtle to live out her days with dignity without having to worry about becoming destitute or not getting her urgent care needs met.

YOUR donation - however small - can assist Mary & Myrtle put in a legal application which will allow them access to the support they need.

Because Mary & Myrtle are facing destitution now, we need to raise £7,500 within the next 7 days to make a legal case to enable them to avoid destitution and access the care & support that they need!

Any donation – however small - is a life saver. Thank you for all your help!

Background

In May last year, Mary’s husband of 33 years, Dave, passed away. Dave was an incredibly caring, brave and wonderful husband and son-in-law to Myrtle.

During the Pandemic, despite suffering from debilitating Parkinson’s, he worked part time as a frontline worker, a supermarket cashier, and supported the family financially and emotionally.

As a result of his death and the loss of his financial support to the household, Mary and Myrtle have fallen on hard times and are facing destitution.

With YOUR support, we can challenge this so that both Myrtle and Mary can get the necessary support.

Your kind donations have saved Myrtle's life in the past by keeping her in the UK with her beloved daughter Mary and by preventing her from being sent back to South Africa.

YOUR support, however small, can now enable Myrtle to live out her days with dignity, care and support without having to worry about becoming destitute.

How donations will be used

All donations will be used to help Myrtle's situation in the UK. They will be used to cover legal costs, costs for medical reports (where necessary), legal advice in nationality law (where advisable) and other necessary disbursements to make her case.

The money will be held on Myrtle's client account with her legal representatives, the International Care Network (ICN). ICN will then pay the disbursements and invoices for necessary medical reports and barristers' invoices for the preparation of Myrtle's applications to achieve the goals set out above. Where money is left over, it will either be used for future immigration applications for Myrtle or could be used to directly ease the financial hardship experienced by Mary and Myrtle whilst the application is pending.
