The Pill is a 14-16 minute body horror short film, written and directed by Isabella Josey and Produced by Himanshu Hotchandani.

Synopsis: Worried that her boyfriend is losing interest, a desperate young Mia decides to give in to having sex with him. However, when she gets on birth control for the first time, she is interrupted by a series of escalating horrifying symptoms that threaten her relationship and self-image.

Being produced with the help of 20 crew members, The Pill is a Griffith film school third year production. Discussing the effects of a birth control pill on a young woman's body, The Pill is driven by the life experiences of many such young women, this film is set to start a positive conversation among young adults and foster a safe space for it to take place. Over the years of growing to be an adult, we are taught to whisper about these conversations, and with The Pill we want to bring to screen everything that needs to be said, to help young adults realise it is normal to feel a certain way with their bodies.

A word from Bella.

Living as a woman in the 21st century, I’ve been lucky enough to be inspired by a plethora of female-created stories. However, I still feel there are holes in the representation of women’s lives, especially in sexuality and the female body. After experiencing my reproductive health issues and seeing the plight of many other women my age, I was empowered to make a film that captured that. Having grown a love for the body horror genre, I felt like this was the appropriate medium to explore such ideas. I think this film will speak to the experience of many women who have felt crazy and isolated while navigating their sexual health in today’s climate and I think this film will stand on its own as a film that directly depicts the negative experience of taking birth control, something that is typically not talked about.
