Help Us House Rescued Animals in Iceland!

Hi everyone,

My name is Rebecca, I am a Agricultural economist plus a certified Icelandic tour guide, and together with my husband and our three wonderful children, we run Hólar Farm, a peaceful animal sanctuary tucked away in the Icelandic countryside. I’m originally from Denmark, but I’ve called Iceland home for over 20 years now. This farm isn’t just our home it’s a safe haven for animals in need, and every single one of them holds a special place in our hearts.

Each of my children has grown up surrounded by our animals. They help with the daily care, know each animal by name, and share the deep love and responsibility that comes with rescuing those who can’t speak for themselves. For us, this isn’t just a farm, it’s family.

We’re now raising funds to build a new barn something we urgently need. Our current space is bursting at the seams, and this new barn would open the door to helping many more animals who desperately need a second chance. With better shelter, we can take in more rescues year-round, give them warmth and safety through the harsh winters, and provide a stable environment for animals that have often come from unstable pasts.

At Hólar, our rescued animals aren’t just fed and sheltered they’re deeply loved. Whether it’s sheep, goats, ducks, rabbits, or horses, every animal gets the care it deserves. We also open our doors to visitors each summer, welcoming families from all over to learn, interact, and support what we do. All entry fees go directly toward feeding, vet care, and upkeep, but with such a small team and so many animals, building this barn is a big leap we can’t take alone.

This new space will change everything. It will allow us to expand safely, take in emergency rescues when others can’t, and keep providing the high standard of care that makes Hólar so special. For the animals, it means shelter, healing, and love. For us, it means continuing a mission we’ve poured our lives into.
