We are the COP Bike Ride!

A giant cycling relay, from COP30 (Brazil) to COP31 (Türkiye ). An international citizens initiative to stress the relevance and potential of cycling as a powerful means to reduce transport related CO2 emissions.

What are we doing?

We are giving a voice to all cyclists or want to be cyclists, in order to give everyone safer infrastructures.

- In our bags we carry ten concrete policy proposals, ready to be implemented.

- On our way from Belém to Antalya, we already met several dozens of elected representatives so they commit to 3 actions to promote cycling.

✍️ They will sign an engagement letter that will be brought to the representatives at the COP31, whom we will ask to do the same.

Why did we choose cycling ?

22% of the worldwide carbon footprint is from transport ✈ (Source: AIE, 2021).

75% of travels in cities are below 3km and 42% of deliveries could be done in cargo bike.

➡️ The opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint through biking are huge !

Other biking benefits ✨ :

➡️ Health : -10% risk of cardiovascular disease, -30% risk for type 2 diabetes, -30% risk of death by cancer (WHO).

➡️ Social cost : Cities could save up to €400 billion/year by adopting a cycle network like Copenhagen (DeutschlandFunk Nova).

➡️ Productivity : Cyclists have up to 12% lower risk of sick leave, with 4.5 fewer days absent per year (European Commission).

Why do we need your help ?

COP31 Bike Ride started from Belém in Brazil and has now reached Türkiye after crossing 20 countries! The international team of COP Bike Riders, joined by the Turkish riders, will now ride in Türkiye before reaching Antalya, the hosting city for COP31!

All riders are committed volunteers who have traveled under (sometimes very) low cost lodging conditions on the route, for weeks or months. As COP presence inflates systematically living expenses in the hosting city, we need your support for that in Antalya! The more money we collect, the more riders will be able to stay and have an impact at COP31.

Also, there are many other collective expenses to enhance the initiative as a whole, such as communication material including a documentary we are producing each year to report on the journey and increase our visibility and impact.

➡️ Our goal : raise up to 10,000€ ⬅️

So we can secure the power of this initiative: have multiple cyclists to deliver the voices of all cyclists at COP31 and communicate broadly afterwards.
