Give A Book, Change A Life - for $5

Tax deductible
Giving Books for people in Social Services Settings (this is the US page)

Your gift of 5 bucks can provide a book to someone who can really appreciate a hopeful perspective in their life right now. Give more if you can, but $5 pays for a wonderful book.

A book recipient wrote: "I keep reading it. I'm slow because of physical problems. You don't know how precious the book you sent me is. I even start crying sometimes."

Since early 2017, the Giving Books Project has been working across North America to purchase life-changing books and donate them to people facing tough times so they can find hope.

We donate books where many people will benefit, particularly in social services settings. Books go to schools, retirement centers, shelters, orphanages, rehab centers, seniors centers, community centers, corrections and mental health facilities, hospitals, and more places like these.

Donations are tax-deductible for US taxpayers.

"I am currently working in a consultation position with a youth council in Lowertown on creating a youth action plan for their community as a response to the recent gun violence in the community and loss of a local youth. I would love to share this book with them given that they are the youth leaders in their community working towards positive change."
Manock Luai, Director of Prezdential Basketball - 26 copies donated to them - Ottawa, Canada

Our volunteers sometimes wrap books for donation and have been told that organizations' clients enjoy that.

"In the new year I followed up with my contact for the homeless shelters here in Fredericton. I wanted to know if they would like more books for a small new facility.
With the colder weather, the demolition of a couple of tent cities and the opening of Out of the Cold, they’ve been very busy. I was told:
Each resident received their book, and we have heard positive remarks from a couple who have read the books. I walked by a resident last week at St John House with the book on their bed, which I was happy to see!"

From another recipient: "This book is a treasure. A treasure."

Places that receive our books share them often with their clients in reading groups that promote self-reliance.

You can suggest a place to receive books. Please give the organization's name and location where you wish a donation to be made, and tell us what you like about this organization you admire. You can do this after clicking the "Contact" button. Scroll down to the "Organizer" section to find that.

From an administrator at another place where books were donated:
"Hello from everyone at Table Talk, our Friday free lunch where residents and volunteers have been socializing for years. Bob recently handed out books that you gave him for us, and we are really enjoying them. I have bookmarked several passages that will be good for Moments at Open Door. Thank you for thinking of us! You know you are welcome at Open Door anytime."

"... I think the youth will take a lot from this book. Finding peace is not as easy as it sounds, especially in this new world. The values align perfectly with what we are working to help them discover...."
Manock Luai, Director of Prezdential Basketball, Ottawa, Canada

Please contribute what you can to help people read insightful, empowering books that inspire hope. Every contribution of any size will be appreciated. Your kind efforts go 100% to purchasing books, some shipping costs, and expenses to maintain basic web pages. Volunteers deliver and donate these books. All who help with this project are unpaid volunteers. Donations are tax-deductible for US taxpayers.

Chilibean (in the picture above) told me the books have been a big hit. She said she had even handed out the book she was saving for herself, so I gave her an extra one. She was glad to have her own copy again.
