Hello relatives we are the Lakota empowerment club.
Before we start I would like to inform you what the Clubs purpose is. The Lakota Empowerment Club is a group of Native American students empowering our youth , fighting for racial equality, fairness in school , less discrimination and just about any adversity we as people of color face on an everyday basis. We are based out of Rapid City Central High school , with about 16 members.
Some example of us in action:
In September 2021, we organized a school wide walkout to voice our opinions on Governor Kristi Noem’s
proposal on removing our history from the history books, meaning it would not be taught at all in South Dakota, we had support from our principal Mr.Talley as well as many students. We also attended a Lakota language summit in October of 2021, learning about our language and culture from influential relatives in our community. We also created an hand game and drum team, competing in various tournaments and many hours fundraising as well as many hours meeting together in a small classroom. This group is something so big and influential , we love to be the place where student can voice their concerns and just feel safe.
Recently we discovered an awesome opportunity to attend a National Unity Conference in Phoenix, Arizona from February 24-27th 2022, a chance to learn from Native youth councils around the the U.S, and our culture. We are aware of the short notice but we recently just discovered that it is possible to attend .This opportunity is a blessing.
We are proposing additional funds to aid our journey to Arizona , anything will help.❤️
