Help the Devera Family with a Healing Garden

Donación protegida
Most people who know the DeVera Family (Jason, Liz, Lana (4) and Scarlett (9 months) know them to be a happy, healthy and growing family but not everyone knows that Jason has an existing heart condition that required a valve replacement several years ago.  As an avid tennis player and energetic dad of two young girls...why would you.

Unfortunately, back in March, Jason started to experience a low grade temperature that would not go away.  In early April, his temperature spiked and fearing what most of us have been fearing he went to get tested for COVID-19.  He tested negative only to find out he had endocarditis (an infection in his heart) and was in the hospital for over a week before they could get the infection under control so he could go home but knowing that another valve replacement was inevitable in the near future.

Liz and Jason were hopeful that the infection would stay at bay and the worst of the pandemic would be over before he needed another valve replacement but on April 22nd Jason experienced a stroke as a result of a blood clot from the endocarditis that unfortunately was not a candidate for surgery or medication.  Fearing that he could suffer from another blood clot, Jason had valve replacement surgery on April 24th.  On April 26th, he was experiencing some bleeding so they had to do surgery again but fortunately they were able to find it and fix it.

Jason is still recovering in the hospital from the stroke and both surgeries and has a long, painful recovery ahead of him.  But he is strong and has done it before so we have no doubt he will conquer this again.

As some of you may know, Liz and Jason and the girls moved to Capitola last September remodeling a home they plan to raise the girls in and be their forever home.  Unfortunately, shortly after the remodel was complete and they moved in, Scarlett got Botulism resulting in a week long hospital stay herself.  While Scarlett (strong just like her dad) has recovered beautifully, this put a stop to their plans to finish their yard...which brings us to now.

I know having the house in order for Jason when he gets home is very important to Liz as she wants nothing more than for him to have a comfortable place to recover safely. Given the current environment, Jason will be very susceptible to infection so he will pretty much be home bound and I know having a beautiful place for Jason to see and be outside in is very important to Liz.

Several of you have asked how you can help and unfortunately, given the current environment there is very little we can do so Pedro and I want to raise money for them to finish their yard (put in a fence and lawn and flowers) so that Jason has a beautiful outdoor space to get some fresh air, watch the kids play and recover.  A peaceful, healing garden for them to enjoy as a family.    If you are looking to help, this is a way you can help although your thoughts and prayers are also enough and very welcome during this time.

Please pray for this beautiful, loving family and picture Jason just like he is in this picture...happy and healthy!

Love, Pedro and Colleen

P.S.  Jason would probably kill us if he knew we were doing this but oh well.
