Our dear friend, mentor, and Lester B. Pearson community pillar Karen Kyle has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. After completing her first round of chemotherapy, Karen faces a long and challenging journey ahead — one that will include ongoing treatments, medications, and recovery expenses.

Karen is a beloved and retired educator who spent decades teaching and inspiring students at Pearson in Ottawa. Known for her kindness, generosity, and lifelong commitment to social justice, Karen has touched countless lives — in the classroom, among colleagues, throughout the Ottawa community, and internationally. Her compassion and dedication have always uplifted others; now, it’s our turn to uplift her.

While Karen approaches this battle with her usual courage and grace, the financial burden of cancer treatment is significant. Although this is just the beginning, substantial medication costs, specialized care, and everyday living needs during recovery are expected to add up quickly.

Karen and her family are deeply grateful for the many heartfelt offers of help — from home-cooked meals to thoughtful gestures of support. These acts of kindness truly warm her heart.
