Our Heights Corner Market family is heartbroken to share that one of our own, Chef Stella Garcia, is facing an unimaginable challenge. Her son, Beto Alcantar, was recently diagnosed with B-ALL Leukemia and has been hospitalized since last Sunday. He received his diagnosis on Saturday and will begin chemotherapy soon.

Stella has been by his side every step of the way.

If you know Stella, you know she’s the heart of our kitchen; a chef we’ve come to deeply love and respect for her talent, her dedication, and her constant positive attitude. She’s the kind of person who goes above and beyond for everyone around her. Her son, Beto, also worked with us at Heights Corner Market for a period during high school, bringing that same warmth and kindness his mom is known for.

Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.

This diagnosis has brought emotional and financial hardship to their family. Between hospital stays, treatments, and time away from work, the road ahead will not be easy. We’re asking our community to come together to support Stella and Beto through this difficult time, to help ease the burden so they can focus on healing.
