Greetings!
I am the proud dog-mom of Sugar Marshmallow! Sugar has been my best friend since 2014. Sugar is a Maltese Shitzu Poodle mix. I remember the day I fell in love and why. It was her fighting spirit. My first few visits watching her and her brothers as they fed from their mother, Sugar was the runt. I watched as her big brothers bullied her and blocked her from getting any suckle. The first day I may have helped by trying to adjust one of the pups to make room for her to slide in there...the second visit I honestly had my eye on one of the boys. Then it happened, that third visit, Sugar had stood up for herself showing her willpower to survive. She triumphed that day fighting back strong. The smallest with the biggest heart & spirit! She was the one. From that visit on until she was ready to come home Sugar had me hooked.
Not only I was attached to this fluffy sweetness. As I took classes at the community college and worked Sugar was cared for by my dad. Within a short period of time I could tell my dad had developed a special relationship with Sugar. I even got a lil jealous...they had their own special language with each other it seemed. This made me fall even deeper in love. A bond has been built that was destined to be.
In 2018 my dad suddenly passed and Sugar was by his side comforting him, loving him til the very end. Her position in our family is strong and needed. Since the passing of my father I promised him that I would take care of her like she did him.
This is why I am reaching out. Sugar is a happy family member. This summer has been a happy one. Sugar travels with me frequently to visit family and the house she so fond of (Long Island, NY) my parents. At the end of this summer my mother broke her pelvis so our stay was lengthened. As October/November approached I noticed Sugar bleeding and rushed her to the emergency vet.
Sugar was bleeding from the chin. Apparently she was scratching it. This revealed a small mass on her chin.
Since that visit our lives have changed. More visits have confirmed the worst that I could imagine for her. The mass on her chin is hard to the touch. It is now raw without hair and easily bleeds out from a bump, rub, or water. Through thorough examination the vet has also found a lump on her throat. The lump on her throat has been tested. The results are malignant. Grade 2-3.
Sugar is still playful, cheery, and has lots of life to live. I don't make a lot or have enough funds for her care. I have prayed on this and believe that Sugar can be healed and recover to live the rest of her life cancer free and her happy self.
We have a rough road ahead of us. Plenty of tests and visits plus tender loving care which means less hours I have available to work which means fewer available funds.
I have so far put aside car payments to make sure she is comfortable and seen by vet. Sugar Needs Your Help!
Currently the decision of surgery depends on a few things but they want to start right away with treatment and so do I. Blood work, Oncologists, Xrays, etc are all on the list. I have included a recent detail of the next phase of steps the vet wants to take to determine the best options for Sugar.
If you were to meet Sugar you would be addicted to her like a bee to honey.
We are so thankful for a platform like this because I was starting to feel overwhelmed. Our goal is to bring in 2027 full of hope and solutions to a healthy happy year!
