Why a GoFundMe?
Many school children in the state of Tennessee will return to school to find that their schools have placed our national motto, "In God We Trust," in prominent places under the guise of celebrating our national heritage. We at ReclaimTheMotto.org embrace the court rulings that have determined the motto does not violate the constitutional separation of church and state because it is not an endorsement of any particular religious viewpoint. This means that "God" in this context can mean anything you want it to mean, and as such, we are here to help those of any belief embrace the motto in a way that aligns with their own views.
What is this for?
The goal of this campaign is to raise funds so that laptop or folder stickers (6" x 2" each) that contain the national motto along with a representation of a God concept that secular-minded students of any religious belief (including those that don't believe in any religion) can proudly participate in this state-forced recognition of the national motto. God concepts include the Egyptian sun God Ra, the Pagan God Baphomet, atheist God concepts including the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Buddha, and SCIENCE!, along with one of four Norse Gods including Thor, Loki, Odin, and Freyja. Our goal is for every student in Tennessee who wants a sticker to get one.
How the funds will be used:
Funds will be used to purchase laptop / folder stickers at a significant bulk-purchase discount. For every $10 we raise, a minimum of four laptop / folder stickers will be distributed to students. If this campaign raises at least $2,500, that number will go up to five stickers for every $10 raised. The more money we raise, the better the discount, and the more we can spread the word.
GoFundMe takes a portion of every sale, and we expect to incur costs related to shipping that are unknown. If we are able to partner with local secular groups who will help us distribute to local students, that will lower our costs and allow us to purchase and send more stickers. The money that is left after fees and shipping costs will be distributed as follows:
10% will go to The Original Motto Project. Our core mission is really to put ourselves out of business at some point, so making sure the long-term work of returning our national motto to E Pluribus Unum, "From Many, One" is crucial to our overall long-term goals.
20% will go to support the artists who created these designs.
The rest of the money will be used to pay for the stickers, again, at a significant discount compared to retail. We plan to send out a broad selection so that various viewpoints will have a chance to be displayed and students can pick the God concept that most aligns with their own world view, however you are welcome to provide us a note about which Gods you would like your donation to be put towards.
Timelines:
This will be an ongoing campaign, however we would like to begin shipping as soon as possible so that students can have their folders, laptops, backpacks, or whatever they choose adorned with a message that we are an inclusive nation, and if "In God We Trust" must be our motto, then that will - by definition - be inclusive as well.

What if we get more funds than we have requests for stickers? -- Hopefully this won't be a problem. We plan to reach out to secular organizations across Tennessee to help us spread the word and distribute as many stickers as we can. However, if the campaign ends up being too successful in this regard, we will branch out to other states - Arkansas, for example - that have also legislated placement of our national motto in public schools and give those students the opportunity to make their voices heard as well.
Can I purchase stickers for myself at this price? -- Unfortunately, the discount for these stickers is only available for bulk purchases and special causes like this one.
