Help save the family at Cherry Creek grooming.
Don protégé
It’s with a very heavy heart that Jinna and I have decided to close the doors to Cherry Creek Grooming. Most of you don’t know that our daughter suffered a horrific multiple dog attack, less than 50 or so yards from our front door and that lasted more than 10 minutes. A good Samaritan came upon the scene and scared the neighbors’ dogs away as Jinna was coming out of our house to see what the commotion was, or this could have been even more tragic. The stress and trauma related to this attack has been overwhelming. For obvious reasons, having numerous and varied types of dogs around due to a full schedule of grooming has become untenable and detrimental to our family’s mental health. After 22 years of taking care of all the fur babies that we possibly could in the Austin and surrounding area, we have decided that we need to rest and heal from this tragedy.
This is the story of what happened that day: It was ending like any other day and Jinna was cleaning up the room that had been left over from a day full of dog grooming while I was bringing all the fur babies back to their homes. She heard barking outside but that was not unusual, so she went on about her business. After the barking became louder and more aggressive sounding, she went outside and then heard the barking and growling fade momentarily. She then saw a car pull into our driveway honking loudly multiple times. The woman in the vehicle screams, “Your daughter has been attacked by two dogs down the street! Help me get her out of the car!” Our daughter, Akasha, cannot walk and is bleeding profusely. Jinna places her in the chair next to the car. Jinna and Akasha then hear sounds of more dogs attacking and fighting. Akasha’s friend, Lily, was coming down the street to see Akasha and is confronted by the same dogs. Luckily, Lily has her dog with her and the dogs attack her dog instead of attacking Lily. She is able to fight off the dogs with the help of her dog and her backpack and is not injured. Jinna and Akasha initially don’t know that she has escaped unharmed, though, because they can only hear, and not see what is going on. Lilly runs to our house and sees that Akasha has been badly injured, so she calls her mom to come help . After getting Akasha on the porch, Jinna realizes how bad the injuries are. Akasha had been attacked for more than 10 minutes by two very large bull mastiff style big dogs. She was bit dozens and dozens of times and her corduroy pants are shredded; her legs and lower torso are torn open in many places and punctured in many others. Jinna is having the hardest time with the memory of realizing that the yellow substance on her hands was fatty tissue falling out of Akasha’s wounds. was freaking out ! Akasha is scooped up and taken to the emergency room. On the drive Akasha was in a state of shock and saying over and over “If I stop talking I’m going to pass out, l’m going to pass out!” At the hospital, over more than two hours Akasha received vigorous cleaning of her wounds and multiple sutures. She missed the entire last month of school. It was almost 2 weeks before she was able to walk, it took months of healing for her wounds to turn to scars and her recovery is still not over.
Please understand that Jinna and I are devastated to not be the ones making your fur babies beautiful and comfortable. We have been doing that for as long as we can remember and have done this for some of you for multiple generations of fur babies. We hope that the closure of our family business is only temporary until we can get some help navigating a direction to be able to move on from the fear, anxiety, pain and confusion this trauma has caused.
