The Dance Studio, Inc. also known as "TDS" is located in downtown Romeo, MI and was established in 1997. The owner Sandra Michalski-Shefferly has been teaching dance in Romeo since 1986. Throughout the years she has kept one goal weaved through all the generations of students and faculty. That goal has been to make each performer feel like they belong at TDS, a valuable member of the TDS Family!
Ms. Sandy has always been generous, working with dance parents to waive tuition, or create a flexible payment plans to allow students to continue dancing when families have had financial setbacks (as you may know, dance is expensive). With almost 25 years of dance families moving through TDS, I would like to repay her generosity and see that the studio continues to grow for future generations of dancers. Asking for help and being vulnerable is really hard to do, especially for those who always want to handle everything on their own. This time TDS, and Ms Sandy really need your help to keep dancing. Your support for The Dance Studio and Ms Sandy will mean the world to our immediate family and our TDS Family.
You may have seen TDS dancers perform on the spookiest street in Michigan, Tillson Street. TDS is well known for their performance of "Thriller" during the Halloween festivities each year. TDS also performs annually at the Peach Festival Parades and the Armada Fair. TDS performed their first flash mob last year during the Peach Festival before the Car Parade.
The Covid-19 Pandemic has crippled the studios ability to operate as usual. Following regulations the studio closed the building as mandated mid-March and did not run any classes in April. Ms. Sandy, and her staff began offering Zoom classes for all students to continue to practice their skills in May and June. Currently dance tuition is pay as you can, understanding that many families have also been put in financial distress due to the pandemic. The studio applied for funds through the federal government, but only received a small amount through the Payroll Protection Loan (not even enough to cover one months expenses). With summer approaching and things still not back to normal TDS is not able to host a traditional annual dance recital. The funds earned from spring tuition months and recital help pay summer studio expenses. The loss of this income combined with the uncertainty of summer and fall registration happening devastates the ability to operate. Donations made will help pay for building expenses, utilities, studio bills and payroll.
If you have danced at TDS, whether for Ms. Sandy, Mr Andrew, Ms Justine, or Ms Nicole please consider donating. If you have fond memories of LA DanceMagic, performing at Disney World, Duggan's camping weekends, parent dances, recitals or your TDS extended family, please donate! The Dance studio is more than just a place to learn dance, it is a family and a community. It is our time to support our TDS Family and say thank you Ms Sandy for the memories, the lessons, the hours sweating and the journey. Please donate, and help this small business survive COVID-19.
