Hello! I'm Sam, and I'm physically disabled, neurodivergent, and transmasculine. I'm so excited to share that I've been approved for gender-affirming masculinising surgery (top surgery) for later this year in Hull, England.
I've experienced the burden of chest dysphoria for as long as I can remember, and it has made it incredibly difficult to live my life to the fullest. This surgery is something I've needed for many years, and it's essential for my quality of life. I'm deeply grateful that it's finally happening.
The surgery is in England, a long way from my home in Scotland. I'll need to travel to Hull and stay nearby for about two weeks while I recover and attend my post-operative appointments.
Because of my disability, I'll also need someone with me to care for me during recovery, as well as some adaptive equipment to help me manage safely while my movement is restricted. Thankfully, I'm able to cover the cost of the surgery itself, but I would really appreciate some help with the substantial costs of travelling, staying near the hospital and recovering safely.
Those costs add up quickly, and that's what I'm asking for help with:
- Train travel between Scotland and Hull: £300 for myself and the person caring for me during recovery
- Two weeks' accommodation near the hospital: £800
- Transport to and from appointments: £100
- Post-operative medical and hygiene supplies: £100
- Adaptive equipment for recovery, including a grabber and wedge pillow: £100
Target: £1,400
Any additional funds will go towards unexpected recovery and aftercare costs. If there is money remaining once I've recovered and all of my surgery-related expenses are covered, I'll pay that support forward to charity and other people fundraising for gender-affirming care.
Please don't feel any pressure to give. Every donation and every share is deeply appreciated. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
