Help Reka Get Life-Saving Surgery

It was 10am and my phone rang with the barn owner. I didn't think too much of it because we've had so many recovery days post Helene storm and expected the call to be about the day's plan. But I didn't get the "your horse is fine" right off the bat like I normally do. I got the "weeeell, so this is where we are at." I knew that immediately meant something wasn't right with Reka.

We weren't expecting the news that Reka would have an issue in her small intestine. Nothing seemed "that bad" and we thought we were just being extra cautious. But after the emergency vet did an eval, it looked like we were on our way to Tryon Equine. I was SO THANKFUL I had gotten insurance and had confirmed colic coverage. Except, when I called them to make a claim only to find out there had been an issue with underwriting and I misinterpreted how the policy read and my claim would be denied. I'm now faced with coming up for her surgery costs on my own, which is estimated at $20,000.

Reka has been every bit of support for me since losing my soul dog, Josie, this past May. She's been the reason I get out of bed, the reason I can find some joy, and the place that has felt the safest for me. I can't not give her the chance so I am asking for help from friends, family, and community.
