Wanderson Sabino, in his mid-50s, has dedicated more than 30 years of his life to waste management and environmental justice in Rio de Janeiro. As the leader of the Tubiacanga Waste Cooperative, he built a community where over 10 workers earned dignified livelihoods by collecting, sorting, and selling recyclable materials.
On September 15th, a devastating fire destroyed the entire cooperative. Everything was lost — the infrastructure, the sorting line, the baler, and all the stored recyclable material. What once was a vibrant workplace that turned waste into value and supported local families is now reduced to ashes.
We are raising at least €5,500 to help Wanderson take the first steps toward rebuilding.
First priority: restore the basic infrastructure of the cooperative (roof, walls, and electricity).
Next step: slowly recover essential equipment such as a baler and sorting line to restart operations.
Future goal: rebuild the cooperative into an even stronger hub for recycling and community resilience.
Your contribution will directly help Wanderson and his team recover their working means, restore their income, and continue creating social and environmental impact on the ground.
Together, we can show solidarity and make sure that a lifetime of dedication to recycling and dignity is not lost.
Support Wanderson and the Tubiacanga Waste Cooperative today. Every donation counts ! =)
