Hi friends - as many of you may have heard, Rannen's fight with cancer isn't over and over the next year, he's got quite a fight ahead of him. He's surrounded by an amazing support group of people starting with his rock of a wife, Rachel, but we all know how expensive medical bills can be. Please consider supporting Rannen financially so that he can focus on what's important - his health, his faith, and his family.
Here's a brief excerpt and update on Rannen's story -
Our trip last week to Dallas was not just about seeing the Bearcats in the Cotton Bowl it was also a chance for us to make lasting memories. Our updates on my scans, MRI and blood tests was supposed to come the Monday after we returned but the doctor insisted on tell us in the middle of the trip.
We saw this news coming before Christmas but I know so many people outside of our home are so invested through prayers, well wishes and genuine care I didn’t want to tell anyone about the news during the holidays in efforts to not burden anyone with it. I feel so bad that others have to hurt I guess I was trying to temporarily spare your heart.
Sadly the cancer is has now moved to my lungs. I am officially considered on Stage 3 (the last stage of testicular cancer). The Doctor said I have a year or a little less to live without treatment. Chemo is set to start tomorrow and will be 5 days straight in the hospital. Two week “rest” then back in for high dose chemo and stem cell transplant for a couple weeks or so, another break then back in for another round. So for the next two to three months I will be in and out of the hospital. This treatment has a 65% success rate.
How are we doing? I don’t want to speak for my wife but I am on an emotional rollercoaster. One day I am angry, the next I am resentful, the next I am thankful and feeling blessed, the next I am emotionless. I don’t have inspirational words to give you. Just that I am going to keep fighting to my dying breathe, I hope my will to live for my family aligns with God’s will for my life.
What can you do? I don’t have that answer for you either. I will be in hospital so reach out to Rachel and our families and ask them how you can help although many have already helped SO much. That is the best answer I got for you. Thank YOU for caring and thank you for praying!
As Rachel and I always say, The Adventures Continue….
