PUCRS Shelter in Porto Alegre:
In the midst of this crisis, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) in Porto Alegre has become a beacon of hope for 260 people who have lost everything. These families are facing unimaginable hardship and rely on the shelter for basic necessities like a roof, clothes, warm blankets, meals, and medications.
The shelter, which started taking on displaced people from the region on May 3rd, has been entirely run by volunteers. These selfless individuals are working tirelessly to provide comfort and support to those who have lost so much.
How You Can Help:
We have created this campaign today to raise funds to support the PUCRS shelter and the 260 people they are housing. Every donation, big or small, will go directly towards purchasing vital supplies such as food, medicine, and underwear.
Imagine not having a roof over your head, not knowing where your next meal will come from, or fearing for the safety of your loved ones. With your help, we can provide some comfort and support to these families during their darkest hours.
Please donate generously and share this campaign with your friends and family. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by this devastating flood.
Remember, even the smallest donation can make a big impact!
Transparency and Accountability:
My name is Regis Kopper. I am originally from Porto Alegre and have lived in the United States, currently in North Carolina, for the past 18 years. My personal friend and former mentor Márcio Pinho is a Porto Alegre native, a professor at PUCRS, and the volunteer coordinator for purchasing supplies at the PUCRS shelter.
This campaign is being co-organized by Márcio and me.
We understand the importance of transparency and accountability. Here's how we'll ensure your donations are used effectively:
- Direct Transfers: All funds raised through this campaign will be transferred directly to Marcio Pinho's Wise account. Wise offers secure and transparent international money transfers.
- Detailed Spending Reports: Márcio will provide detailed reports on how the donated funds are being used. These reports will be posted on this GoFundMe page for your reference.
- Surplus Funds: If more funds are raised than needed, any remaining funds will be donated to a reputable flood relief organization operating in Rio Grande do Sul. We will provide details on the chosen organization on this GoFundMe page.
Your trust is important to us. With your generous support, we can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by this disaster.
