Hi, my name is Yvette Foster, I’m a 911 Emergency Services Dispatcher from Oakland, CA and have been for the last 15 years. As a 911 Dispatcher I take and dispatch many different types of calls related to medical emergencies, my first priority is to get the callers the help they need to get through their emergencies.
This emergency truly hits home.
I’m creating this fundraiser for my niece and single mother, Miako who has been diagnosed with a very aggressive and rare form of breast cancer, it’s called “TNBC” Triple-Negative Breast Cancer. For those of you who are unfamiliar, it’s a kind of breast cancer that does not have any of the receptors that are commonly found in breast cancer. Unfortunately, it is metastatic meaning it has traveled within her body and it is bi-lateral, meaning in both breasts.
Miako was diagnosed with this earlier this year, it’s a complete shock to us all, especially her 13 year-old daughter Taylor. Their lives changed dramatically after the diagnosis.
Just to give you a little insight into this form of breast cancer.
TNBC is treated with the following combination:
1. Lumpectomy to remove the lump from the breasts;
2. Mastectomy to remove her breasts and nearby lymph nodes to see if the cancer has spread;
3. Radiation to kill any remaining cancer cells;
4. Chemotherapy in case the cancerous lump has spread elsewhere, which lowers the chance that the cancer will grow or come back.
Miako is currently experiencing many of the side effects from the treatment, hair loss, nausea, and tiredness.
I was at work one day thinking about how I could personally help my niece. Myself, family and friends have donated funds to her, but we don’t have enough funds to help cover even a part of her medical bills and medications. It was at that point that I realized I had to turn to my community. Cancer is one of the most expensive medical conditions to treat. Miako is unable to work due to this illness and the side effects. It has become not only a mental and emotional burden to her and her young daughter, but also a major financial burden and that is why I have created this campaign. I am attempting to raise funds to help my niece with her medical bills, transportation costs and medications. These donations will help alleviate the additional stress that comes with the cancer diagnosis.
We would greatly appreciate any amount. Your donations will truly help. We are also accepting prayers, positive vibes, words of warmth, and virtual hugs!
I will be providing updates on her progress.
